Alyki Anavissou in Attika: Is it a wetland?
5 May Anavissos Attica
Aliki Anavisos (Aliki Anavisos) is a swamp! It is 50 km south of Athens, on the very dry southwest coast of the Attica peninsula, just before Sounion.
It was once a functioning salt pan and was abandoned for decades. Abandoned land includes reclaimed wetlands, temporary ponds, rough pastures, and scattered wetlands. It rained this year.
Most of the water had evaporated when I visited. But it was still very beautiful and promising. Environmental potential.
During the forty minute walk I photographed this spring, made excellent videos and counted about 18 species of birds. Light green food spots, waterlogged ponds, muddy patches and small shallow pools where the first green frogs are jumping around. What a beautiful morning before starting work at the office.
