Pikrodaphne Stream: Visit with Erasmus+ teachers
Mid May 2022 - Picrodaphna Stream, Athens.
External details are important.
The Picrodaphna stream is one of the few streams that flow around the metropolis of Athens.
Here we share photos from an Erasmus study trip with visiting professors from Malta and Spain.
We talk about natural history, naturalists and field guides. We use our own equipment: a laptop, binoculars, a telephoto lens, and a robot. We document biodiversity and gain knowledge and experience of urban streams as linear oases.
Finally, we enjoyed nature and met some wildlife. During the 2 hour hike I encountered 14 species of birds and a surprising number of native collared tortoises, only 2 or 3 "American" tortoises. The number of local tortoises seen was about 15 (the most I have ever counted). Large frogs and toads (and their tadpoles) and a breeding pair of grey-tails (didn't know that).
