Coastal nature conservation in Qatar

I only spent a few days in the Qatar desert, but I'm sure that anyone looking for an escape will find nature there. This small country has beautiful wild deserts and subtropical beaches, as well as a swamp oasis full of birds. Fuwayrit Beach is one of a dozen mangrove lagoons and is well worth a visit in northern Qatar.

Here I share some of the photos taken during one of our most exciting expeditions (April 24-28, 2013). Please read our Fuwayrit seabird research article for scientific opinion on their conservation:

And please, if you live in the bay, take care of nature.

Doha is like any other city in the Middle East.

I have seen mullets, pipefish, snapper and many other fish swimming through the mangroves at high tide.

The shallow waters of the Fuwayrit Sea are a great place for snorkeling. There is an abundance of tropical marine life.

Although there are very few rock or coral structures in shallow water, some fish, crabs and squid can easily be seen. This is a cardinal fish.

Interesting algae. They also attract fish like this mojar.

Located at the extreme north of the country, the north is home to a majestic system of dune and tsu islands, with extensive intertidal wetlands and mangroves.
